Trichocereus pachanoi Malo’s Ayacucho

This is an old Trichocereus pachanoi clone that can be traced back to Malo and Hemisphere’s Nursery and Trading Company. Old forum posts suggest Hemisphere’s Nursery imported this clone from Karel Knize.

Appears to fit in the LER/JS350a/Torres/Texas Torch complex.

Cuttings of this clone are often available from Cactus Affinity.

Cuttings are often available from Cactus Affinity.

Trichocereus pachanoi Juul’s Giant

These are plants from various trusted sources that I am confident are the real Juul’s Giant. Primarily Sacred Succulents and Kakster. I sometimes refer to these as Juul’s Giant (yard) .

Trichocereus pachanoi Juul’s of Unknown Origin JS238

These are plants from Kakster, however he did not have direct lineage back to Tom Juul’s garden so he wasn’t able to confirm they are the actual Juul’s clone. JS238 may represent multiple clones and some may be authentic Juul’s Giant and others a similar looking clone.

Trichocereus pachanoi JS350a

Came from E.D. in Sacramento. He told me it came to him from Texas. I believe it may be the same as Texas Torch.

Trichocereus pachanoi “short spine peruvianus“

This plant was sold by some large California nurseries as Trichocereus peruvianus. MSS gave this clone the name “short spine peruvianus” which has now become a commonly used description but was once a clone name.

Those same nurseries also sold a Trichocereus peruvianus monstrose which became known as “ short spine peruvianus monstrose.” This plant looks identical to the monstrose version but never shows monstrose growth. I’ve started to call it “the non-monstrose TPM.”

This clone is sometimes available from Cactus Affinity.

Trichocereus pachanoi Torres & Torres

This clone was collected by Donna and Manuel Torres in Northern Chile. It appeared to be a wild specimen but was found outside the standard range for Trichocereus pachanoi.

My plants come from Sacred Succulents. Starting around 2017 the similar looking clone known as “Texas Torch” (aka “Bolivian Torch” propagated by Creekside Nursery in Texas) has been relabeled as Torres and spread through the community.
